(Vlog) 3 Steps to Start New Habits, & keep going (#2 is surprising)

 In Courageous Living, Lifestyle Tips

I find the understanding of how to master new habits so fascinating that this is my third version of this vlog for you. 🙂 Yes I kept thinking of more I wanted to share with you on this topic and filmed a new one.

Our life is made up of many, many habits, so many that we mostly don’t even notice them. They are just the things we repeat everyday, all day, and can be good, or maybe not so good for us.

Habits such as – what time you wake up, even how you get out of bed, what you do first thing in the morning and through your day, how you walk, exercise, wear your hair, brush your teeth, respond to situations, your thought patterns, the voices in your head, how your drive, eat, cross your legs, take care of yourself, and how and when you go to sleep at night, the list goes on and on.

Yes habits are how we take the many steps in our life, physical ones, repeating thoughts and often our emotional re-actions to the world, and repeat them easily.

When we first start a new habit, ie a new way of doing or being, it is hard for our body and brain. There are lots of choices so masses of brain energy is needed as our brain considers all options, tries different ways, and then our brain, and maybe our heart, picks what seems to be the best way for us then.

And after we repeat it many times, the process becomes a habit and is moved to a different part of our brain (the ancient basal ganglia in base of our brain) for easy recall with no extra energy. Not need to think through all steps again. It’s a great brain-energy saving mechanism.

Yet that is where we can later get stuck. The basal ganglia functions well, and keeps old habits going but it doesn’t like change disturbing these, so later it can be hard to introduce new habits that override the old ones.

Still there are a number of ways you can make it easier to introduce new habit – and this is what I’m sharing in today’s video for you…

I’m sharing three important keys, including a quality that ancient monks practiced, which has become popular in business, and life in general now. This quality is Mindfulness, or awareness, basically about being present in the moment. This in the point #2 I’m exploring in this video, and it really helps.

Maybe you are wanting to introduce a new habit for your self-care (to improve your sleep, fitness, meditation, thoughts, food etc), or it’s a work habit, a project one, or a just the way you have been doing something, that you want to change.

For all of them the way to introduce new habit, or replace an old one, is same, and they are the 3 key steps I’m sharing here.

I would love to hear below what new habit you are wanting to introduce into your life.

Do share this with a friend who has been looking to change things, maybe it could help them too?

Share below if you have a new habit you have started recently, or want to, esp in lockdown many people have.

Good luck bringing new habits you’ld now love into your life….

With love,
