(Vlog) An Adventure in Moving Slightly Slower…
Have you been feeling a bit fast paced recently, maybe without enough adventure moments in the your life?
I was in Ireland last week where even filming this video in Dublin Bay for you was a mini adventure with the crazy edge-of-snow wind blowing. 🙂 I just managed it.
My trip there was part of a new way of traveling that I’ve been introducing in my life – a way that is helping slow the pace of my trips just a little, and bring back some little adventures on the way.
Our lives have become so future-focused that we can often find ourselves missing the slower moments (I know I was), the times when we aren’t rushing towards somewhere else, so there is a bit more ease in our days, a little more space, a chance of noticing the unexpected, moments of connection and new experiences that can bring us wonderful little adventures.
In today’s video I’m sharing the way I’ve been slowing my pace down recently, just a little, and the small adventures that then have space to arrive when we move at even a slightly slower pace. Plus in that slightly slower space, comes the chance to fully relax into immersing ourselves in each moment – such a joy.
This slow change came when I decided to stop flying in Europe, and to just travel by train, bus or ferry. I love trains and always travel to and from Provence in the spring that way. It gives me a chance to relax and watch the fields and forests flow by while spreading out and enjoying a train picnic, reading a book or doing some of my work.Â
In contrast I find the pace of planes and airport frantic and stressful – with no chance to relax or even work.
So I decided to change to slightly slower, and more interesting travel.
Interestingly my trip to Ireland (which included 3 trains and a ferry) cost less than the flight would have, and only took twice an extra 5 hours – yet I could work during most of it, in-between enjoying the views of the Welsh & Irish coasts, and relaxing in the total comfort the ferry – so in fact became a moving office with lovely views.
The extra bonus? ….I reduced my carbon footprint so ease my burden on our planet a little.
I’ld love to hear your thoughts on the idea of slightly slower traveling – whether you cycle or walk to work, or travel without planes to further afield…
