(Vlog) Brain Workouts for Over 30’s, & Green School Inspiration from Bali

 In Courageous Living, Lifestyle Tips

Scientists used to think our brains continued to develop when we were teens, but then stopped once our brain became mature as young adults.

But no longer!

In fact recent studies are showing that our brains continue to change, grow and form new connections all our life.
But, and this is the key thing, only if we continue to do the right things, ones that give us a ‘brain workout’, and if not, as our reasoning ability, memory and verbal fluency starts declining in our 40’s we will notice big changes.

So how to help slow how brains ageing?

There is one key thing that is needed to keep our brains growing and and making new connections as we mature – we need to keep learning new things.
This is how our brains can stay young. And it seems the ways we learn are key to benefiting from the new things do.

Experiential learning, situations where we practice new skills, new understandings, new approaches with frequent feedback so we do them correctly, is a big key.

I am fascinated by our brains, and exciting and new ways of learning that can help us all, so when I was in Bali a few weeks ago I visited the innovative Green School.
Founded 10 years ago it it brings together amazing learning opportunities for the kids, and is the sort of place many of us adults would like to go to too!

Some of the key focuses for them are teaching kids about environmental awareness (the school is powered by solar panels on bamboo poles in the garden and a small hydro turbine on the river below), and having both local and foreign teachers and kids so it is locally integrated.
It is very exciting all the creative and fresh things they are doing there so I filmed this vlog for you at the school to show you some of these.

Brain Workouts for Over 30’s, & Green School Inspiration from Bali

The Green School, and the brain and learning research above that I’ve been exploring recently, got me thinking about what we as adults need to workout and stretch our brains, to keep them younger.
I’m exploring what I found as great options for this in this vlog.

Hope you enjoy this, and I would love to hear below it what you are inspired to do this year to workout and rejuvenate your brain!

And of course, please Share this vlog with any friends of yours who you think may enjoy it so they too can join in the conversation.

With love,

Cassandra Punita
